Richard Fidler opened the scoring in the third minute with a looping header from an Andy Gray cross. Jason Blunt added to the lead in the sixteenth minute with a dipping thirty yards strike and Tony Grant opened his account in the twenty-seventh minute, before Blunt got his second three minutes before Half-Time. He capped a fine display by completing his hat-trick after four minutes of the second half, when he dribbled round the keeper to slot the ball into the net. Jamaican trialist Tony Fogarty showed his skills to beat the keeper from twenty yards after fifty-eight minutes before Stephen Heath got the seventh with a header from a Paul Wharton corner after seventy-one minutes and Tony Grant rounded off the rout with his second goal five minutes from time.
